Today in Food History:

Today is National Café au Lait Day. Café au lait (French for “coffee with milk”) is coffee with hot milk added. It differs from white coffee, which is coffee with cold milk or other whitener added. Also, on this day:

-In 1876 canned sardines went on sale in the U.S. for the first time. They were packed in oil.
