1902 Clara Peller was born (died Aug 11, 1987). She is the actress who is famous for her Wendy’s TV commercial,“Where’s the beef?”

1930 The first King Kullen supermarket opens in Queens, New York.  It is recognized by the Smithsonian Institution as “America’s First Supermarket”  The company was founded by Michael J. Cullen.

1958 The first potato flake manufacturing plant opened in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

1970 Pillsbury registered trademark for “Poppin’ Fresh” (the Pillsbury Doughboy), first used in 1965 for Pillsbury refrigerated dough products.

1970 Cumberland Packing registered “Sweet’n Low” trademark (first used in 1958).
