Also, on this day in 1900 Joseph A. Campbell died (born May 15, 1817).  A fruit merchant, in 1869 he partnered with icebox maker Abraham Anderson to form a canning company that would become Campbell Soup Company.

In 1923 Sir James Dewar died (born Sept 20, 1842). A Scottish chemist and physicist.  In 1892 he invented the ‘Dewar Flask’, the original ‘thermos bottle’.

In 1933 Michel Guerard was born. French master chef, inventor of cuisine minceur (slimming cuisine) and one of the founders of nouvelle cuisine.
