Spencer’s at the Waterfront-Burlington

I took my wife to see a concert in Toronto and on the way, we had heard about this restaurant and wanted to try it out. We stopped here for lunch, and can’t wait to come back to experience their dinner menu.

The atmosphere is very casual but elegant at the same time. We never felt rushed, nor did we feel out of place. The dress was casual for us, and I recommend that. The staff, from the hostess down to the servers and manager were so pleasant and always took care of us.

The Ahi Tuna Tartare is loaded with flavour and I could have eaten another serving. My wife had the Smoked Haddock Chowder and the warm feeling you get from the first spoonful reminds you of home. The plating is quite nice and suits each dish. The portion size is perfect for the price point and the course received. My Grilled 8 oz. Flat Iron Steak was cooked to perfection and was seasoned perfectly. The duck confit fries were delicious and a nice accompaniment to the meal. My wife had the pasta and clams Manhattan style, and she was raving at the tenderness of the clams. One of the most enjoyable points to this meal was the water service (I know, really?) I like carbonated water but my wife enjoys her filtered water. They serve both and without demand. I always had a glass full of the carbonated water which brought up the elegance for me just that little bit more. Then it was time for dessert. My wife had the Maple Creme Pot with Beignets. Loved the presentation (beignets were in a bag just like at Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans). I found the dessert to be a little rich for me, but sweet hasn’t always been my thing. I, instead, ordered the Pecan Tart with Sea Salt Creme Anglais. The tart wasn’t too sweet and the sea salt creme anglais was a very nice finish for this dessert.

Do I recommend this for anyone wanting to try something different? YES. Do I think this is the perfect place for a romantic dinner? YES. The scenery adds that extra something to your experience. You won’t be disappointed.
