Also, on this day in 1851 Sylvester Graham died in Northampton, Massachusetts. He advocated vegetarianism, temperance and the use of coarse ground whole wheat (graham) flour. He developed the Graham cracker in 1829.

In 2006 Afghan President Hamid Karzai opened the $25 million Coca-Cola bottling plant in the capital city of Kabul. The first major business to open in Afghanistan in more than a decade.

In 2013 According to a United Nations report released today, 1/3 of all the food produced worldwide was going to waste or lost because of inappropriate practices, while 870 million people go hungry every day.
