Also, on this day in 1896 ‘The Boston Cooking School Cook Book’ is published, later known as the ‘Fannie Farmer Cook Book.’

In 2013 Fred Turner died (born Jan 6, 1933).  In 1956 he was one of the first employees hired by McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc.  He rose quickly through the ranks, and succeeded founder Ray Kroc as CEO in 1977. He founded Hamburger University in 1961 and was a co-founder of Ronald McDonald House Charities.

In 2015 Los Angeles U.S. District Judge Stephen Wilson ruled that California’s ban on the sale of foie gras was illegal because it encroaches on the regulatory domain of the federal government. It is still illegal to produce foie gras in California.
